Kuchisake-Onna 口裂け女


The Slit-mouthed woman is a character that appears in a popular Japanese urban legend. According to the legend, she was a woman mutilated by her husband and comes back as a malicious spirit for revenge and vengeance. In 1979, when a gossip about the alleged sightings of the said spirit spread around the Nagasaki Prefecture, it caused panic in several places in Japan because the 'news' reached throughout the people of the entire Japan.Rumors also spread that there were schools that only allows students to go home in groups and escorted by teachers to ensure safety, and of police increasing their patrols. Recent rumors of sightings include many reports in South Korea in 2004, it was described to be a woman wearing a red mask who was frequently seen chasing children, and, in 2007, a coroner found some old records from the late 1970s about a woman who was chasing little children. She was then hit by a car, and died shortly after. This character is describes to have a mouth ripped from ear to ear.
